Crystal, Sean, and I organized a surprise camping trip to Deception Pass for Scott's 30th birthday party. Dustin, Magic Joe, Eli, Chris, Davan, Sean, Ray, Scott, and myself all went, and had a great time!
|
1: Shortly after arriving, we headed for the beach. Here we have Magic Joe, Dustin, Sean, Ray, and Chris. |
2: Scott is pretty excited about this. |
3: One of the first things we did was have a four-square game. This attracted a lot of attention from the other vacationers at the park! |
|
5: Sean prepares to unleash a deadly serve. |
6: We eventually adjourned back to our campsite for lunch. Or beer and danishes. Whatever. |
7: Not the healthiest of lunches, but probably no worse than beer and danishes. |
8: Setting up camp in the midst of lunch. |
|
9: Dustin enjoys a tasty sandwich. |
10: Magic Joe enjoys a tasty beverage. |
11: Random macro shot of an evergreen. |
12: We went on a brief walk around the campground, stopping occasionally to play hacky-sack. |
|
13: We had a salmonberry bush in our campsite. |
14: A field of some variety of asters. |
15: Back to the beach for more four-square and beachcombing! Here we see Sean and Ray on stick-patrol. (Sticks are essential to a good camping experience. You can whack things with them, poke at stuff, or even use them to toast marshmallows if they still seem to be clean enough.) |
16: Rock-ball! Using a log of driftwood as a bat! |
|
17: Eli, Ray, Chris, Davan, and Sean on the beach. |
18: Davan tries his hand at rock-ball. |
19: Eli was taking his turn when Scott decided to take it up a notch. |
20: Scott's log proved slightly too large for rock-ball, so other folks found other uses for it. |
|
22: Back at the camp, we discover another useful thing you can do with sticks—make fire! |
23: Fortunately, we had a licensed pyrotechnician on hand to show us a better way. And beer. |
24: Dustin, Ray, and Eli cook up some hot dogs. |
|
27: And breakfast for himself, too. |
|
30: Scott cooked an egg in the fire, and then attempted to eat it with tongs and a Leatherman. |
31: We drove to Deception Pass proper and went on a small hike. This is looking East across Deception Pass by the base of the bridge. |
32: Wildflowers were abundent--I think this is a Spring Beauty. |
|
35: Scott and Ray at the summit of our hike. |
36: A cautionary sign on the base of the Deception Pass bridge. |
